International hotel career journey with RMC Asia from application to placement

Curious About What Happens After Applying to RMC Asia?

You’ve Submitted Your Application – Now What?

Congratulations! You’ve just finished the most important step by sending in your application. As soon as your form is received, our team will get to work behind the scenes, going over your resume, matching your profile with positions at renowned international hotels, and preparing you to travel to your destination country with confidence.

One important idea to understand is:
The recruitment process is not about who is the most perfect when they submit, but who is the most prepared to go through the process. Many candidates delay their registration because they feel their CV is not perfect or they are afraid of being rejected. In fact, CV refinement and professional readiness are part of RMC Asia’s services. The “Submit” button is the gateway to guidance, not a final judgment.

In this article, I will outline the 8 complete stages of your journey with RMC Asia, from the screening process to the moment you land at your dream hotel.

First Impression Matters 👀

Once the form or CV is received, the recruitment team conducts a manual screening rather than simply scanning it with an AI machine. Our team reads the CV, looks at the short answers on the form, and other relevant data or information. The focus is not only on “whether you have a lot of good experience,” but also on “whether your profile can thrive in an international hospitality environment.” People with the potential and a strong desire to develop in a global environment are the ones we want to hire. If your resume doesn’t meet international standards or contains missing information, you won’t be rejected immediately. Instead, you’ll be helped to make it better.
According to one of our career advisors, the things that often cause candidates to be eliminated at this stage are not one or two words on their resume, but rather issues with documents or mismatched expectations. A real example:

  • Does not fit the general requirements for working in the hospitality industry, such as being physically fit, well-groomed, or possessing the appropriate personality. Also, candidates must have a clean record, not use illegal drugs, not have a criminal record, and be able to get a letter of recommendation from their college or previous job. Passports with a validity period of less than 6 months. Many countries with work visas require a minimum of 6 – 12 months remaining validity, and some hosts require even longer.
  • Errors in personal contact details, such as a mistyped email address or phone number, prevent the RMC Asia team from contacting the candidate to proceed to the next stage.

Consultation Call that Turns Dreams into Real Plans

If you pass the initial screening, you will receive an email invitation for a consultation call. This is not an interview! It is a crucial conversation between you and our career advisor. Here, you will receive direction and advice on opportunities that are appropriate and realistic for you.

We will discuss your desired department, destination, or country, as well as your career goals, preferred work environment, program duration, and start date. Additionally, the advisor will update you on the department’s current needs, the partner hotel portfolio, and the hiring season.

It’s Time to Glow Up: Make Your Resume Competitive on an International Level! 📝

This is a major transformation! After the consultation call, let’s start putting together your profile so that it is ready to be presented to international hotels and resorts. RMC Asia will certainly help improve your CV into a professional narrative, which not only states what you do, but also the impact of your actions.

What was previously “Worked at a café, served customers, cleaned tables.” We’ll transform it with a touch of magic into “Barista & Front-line Service at a café with 200+ customers/day, handled an average of 80 transactions per shift, received 4 internal awards for service excellence, and trained 3 new staff members.”

Of course, it’s not just your resume; there are other documents you’ll need, such as your passport, transcripts or academic transcripts, recommendation letters, skill certificates, and clear professional photos.

The “Matchmaking” Process with Partner Hotels

Once your profile is ready, RMC Asia will actively promote you to partner hotels.
The system is not “post and wait,” but rather “matchmaking” based on departmental needs and work culture. There are three possible outcomes that often arise:

  • The hotel is immediately interested and requests an interview.
  • The hotel requests minor changes (shift preferences, start date).
  • The profile is saved for the pool and will be contacted when there is a need.

The RMC Asia team will forward your profile to hotel HR, sometimes accompanied by a brief note outlining the candidate’s strengths, so it’s not just about helping with administrative duties. Therefore, don’t be afraid to emphasize your strongest attributes to your advisor!

Time to Shine: Tips & Tricks to Ace an International Hotel Interview 🌟

The interview with the host company is the most crucial part of the entire process. They will invite you for an interview if they find your profile interesting. This process is your initial opportunity to have a face-to-face conversation with the host, who is usually a manager, HR representative, or a department supervisor. The online interview’s objective is simple: they want to know more about you than just your resume.

At the beginning of the interview, you will usually be asked to provide an overview of yourself, your background, and your motivations for wanting to be a part of the international program. Instead of reading your resume, the best response is to describe your experiences and why you believe you are ready to move forward.

The interview then moves on to questions about your handling of real-life circumstances. If you’re applying for a front desk or guest service job, they want to see that you can deal with people. When a guest is unhappy, for example, the interviewer wants to know how you handle the situation by listening first, showing empathy, and then offering a solution. It is not a response you have committed to memory that is being assessed, but rather your professional thought and behavior.

Candidates for culinary or kitchen jobs are usually interviewed on their understanding of kitchen work standards, cleanliness, and food safety. They want to know if you understand basic protocols like cross-contamination, safe food storage, and keeping a clean workspace. Whether or not you understand that a professional kitchen demands discipline is more important than how many recipes you can learn by heart.

If you want comprehensive interview tips specifically for kitchen roles, RMC Asia has prepared special content on pre-screening that you can use as a guide and tips to navigate the process effectively.

At this stage, you certainly won’t be facing everything alone. RMC Asia will always assist you with your preparation prior to the interview, including how to properly introduce yourself, respond to situational questions, and project a professional demeanor on camera. In addition to helping you get accepted, our top priority is for you to appear prepared, self-assured, and capable of expressing who you truly are!

Congratulations, you made it! Now it’s time to read the offer letter carefully.

If you pass, you will receive an offer letter or training agreement from the host company. Here you can see details such as contract duration, accommodation provided, allowances, working hours & shifts, training period, termination clause, and other benefits such as insurance. We encourage you against signing this letter right away without carefully reading the frequently missed details, like the housing terms (whether you will be sharing a room, the distance to the hotel, and the facilities), or the provisions regarding overtime and holidays.

RMC Asia will make sure you comprehend the terms of the contract and assist you in asking the host any questions you may have, so you don’t need to worry about missing anything. Your status will change from candidate to official program participant as soon as you sign and agree to the terms of the agreement.

🛂✈️ Conquering the Visa Process Without Drama

The official documents are complete, now it’s time to move on to the most crucial process: the VISA!

Because this process is known to be complicated, participants frequently worry about it the most. You don’t need to worry, though, because we won’t leave you to fend for yourself or your own ignorance. To ensure a smooth visa application process, everything is done in the exact order that is specified.

RMC assists you from document briefing, application process, to coordination with the host company. The visa process can take from 2 weeks to several months depending on the embassy, season, and document completeness.

Common critical mistakes:

  • Submitting documents with incorrect file formats or sizes.
  • Passport photos that do not meet embassy standards.
  • Passports with a validity period shorter than required.
  • Inconsistent data between the RMC form and the visa form (name, date of birth, spelling).

At this stage, we will also provide you with a document checklist and assist you in reviewing everything before submitting it.

Welcome Aboard!

Congratulations! You’ve reached your final application step and reached your destination! Before you leave, you will receive a pre-departure guide that will tell you what to expect on your first day, emergency contacts, required documents, and when to get to the airport. After you exit the airport, you won’t have to worry about getting lost. RMC Asia and your host company will have your arrival covered. After being led to a designated pickup location, you will be brought to your lodging or staff housing. Even hotels that provide airport pickup are available!

Following that, you’ll attend an orientation to learn more about your new workplace, SOPs, your boss, and your surroundings. Cultural adaptation is often the most challenging task, ranging from work schedules and cross-cultural interactions to something as simple as eating habits.. Typically, RMC Asia and the host organization prepare a quick lesson on work ethics and local culture.
And most importantly, what sets RMC Asia apart from others is that our support doesn’t stop once you arrive.

RMC Asia will continue to assist you during the program. If you need assistance with administrative duties, are having difficulties adjusting, or would like to discuss career development, you can always contact our team. You won’t ever be left alone because we want your experience to be positive, secure, and valuable. From the first to the last day of the program, you will receive complete support.

Now, we believe you already have a general idea of everything from CV reviews to support upon arrival. Let’s get started right now if you’re prepared to learn more about the world of international hospitality! Get your resume ready, fill out the application, and we’ll help you every step of the way.

AI in hospitality vs human touch - future of hotel industry careers

The Future of Working in Hospitality: Is AI a Threat or an Opportunity?

Warmth, sweet, empathetic service, and sincere smiles are the hallmarks of the hospitality industry 😊.However, as we have seen recently, technological developments have become an inevitable and inseparable part of the industry. With the advent of AI-powered chatbots, automated check-in systems, and housekeeping robots, the hotel and resort industry is undergoing rapid change.

Naturally, this begs the important question: Should hospitality professionals be worried about Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a danger or as a significant potential for advancement, particularly for young people just starting out in the industry?

🤖 AI: Increasing Efficiency in the Background

To be honest, we cannot dispute that AI has sped up and simplified a lot of operations. Numerous global hotel and resort chains have started using chatbots, which are available around the clock to respond to inquiries from visitors. These chatbots may even suggest the best nearby eateries and provide more towels when needed. Radisson Blu Edwardian, for example, has launched Edward, a chatbot that instantly serves all guests’ needs.

Hotel operations have also been designed to be fully automated, with self-service check-in kiosks being widely adopted to reduce lobby queues, AI systems that can predict peak tourist seasons and automatically schedule staff, and even the much-discussed housekeeping robots that can speed up room cleaning and deliver guest requests directly to rooms.

Hotel administration is also changing behind the scenes, especially with regard to hiring. In the modern era, HR departments no longer manually review resumes and job applications; instead, they are automatically filtered and immediately scheduled for interviews. HR teams benefit greatly from this, which frees them up to concentrate more on staff development.

But even with all the comforts available, can efficiency take the place of hospitality?

💡 The Importance of Human Touch

A memorable experience is key in hospitality, so it’s not only about fast service. AI can guess what people like, but it doesn’t understand feelings and can’t show empathy. A chatbot alone can’t comfort a guest who might be having a bad day or feeling sad or disappointed, but a human receptionist can.

For example, Henn na Hotel in Japan once used a humanoid robot as a receptionist to handle check-ins, which reduced staff by nearly 32 people. However, many guests have since said they still miss interacting with humans. This shows that a balance is still necessary.

In addition, a restaurant called WOHOO has introduced an AI named “Chef Aiman” that is tasked with creating menus based on spice and flavor science. From there, human chefs then refine the results. This is a real example of collaboration, not a cause for concern about chefs being replaced.

This is what makes the role of humans vital. On the positive side, in this era of robots and AI, it can be a great opportunity for new talents to learn and focus on:

  • Hone problem-solving and creativity skills
  • Build strong guest relationships
  • Develop cross-cultural and interpersonal skills

So now it’s no longer just about soft skills, but about preparing for a future career in the modern hospitality industry.

🌍 How RMC Asia’s Program Stands Out in the AI Era

Which RMC Asia Program Will Shape Your Hospitality Journey?

Everyone starts somewhere. Let’s find the right hospitality path for you—together.

Imagine This…

You step into the grand lobby of a five-star resort in the Maldives. The sun is setting, casting golden light across polished floors. Guests are arriving from all over the world, and you—yes, you—are right in the middle of it all. Maybe you’re welcoming guests at the front office, supporting events behind the scenes, or training under the guidance of experienced hospitality leaders. It’s more than just a job—it’s the beginning of a life-changing journey.

Figuring out your next move in life—especially when it involves working abroad—can feel overwhelming.
You might be wondering:

  • Should I go for an internship or a real job?
  • Am I ready to lead a team—or should I start small?
  • What if I pick the wrong path?

If any of these questions are on your mind, take a deep breath—you’re not alone.
At RMC Asia, we meet students and young professionals like you every day. You’ve got potential, passion, and maybe a suitcase ready to go—but you need guidance. That’s where we come in.

We offer three main programs to help you grow your career in luxury hospitality. Each one is built around real goals, real people, and real experiences. So let’s explore them in a way that makes sense—with your life in mind.

If You’re Just Starting Out…

→ Go for the Hospitality & Business Internship Program

Think of this as your first step into the industry. Maybe you’re a student who needs academic credit. Maybe you just graduated and want hands-on experience. Either way, this internship gives you a safe and structured space to learn by doing—in stunning hotels across Asia.

Best for:
✨ Students or fresh grads
✨ People who want to explore hospitality before committing
✨ Curious minds who learn by doing

 If You’ve Got Some Experience…

→ Aim for the Management Training Program

You’ve been in hospitality before—maybe an internship, maybe a job. You know the basics, and now you’re ready to lead. This program is designed to sharpen your supervisory skills, build your confidence as a decision-maker, and prepare you for management roles down the line.

It’s not just about working hard—it’s about being trusted to take the lead in a world-class environment.

Best for:
🚀 Hospitality grads with some experience
🚀 People ready to step into leadership
🚀 Ambitious go-getters who want to build a real career

If You’re Ready to Work & Earn…

→ Choose a Contractual Position

This is for people who want to work, not train. You’ll be placed in a defined role with clear responsibilities, a set contract period, and—yes—compensation. You’re not here to shadow or observe. You’re here to contribute.

This program works best if you already have the skills and confidence to perform independently, and you’re looking for a meaningful job experience in a new part of the world.

Best for:
💼 Skilled professionals ready to hit the ground running
💼 People looking for income, experience, and adventure
💼 Confident, independent workers

Still Not Sure?

Totally okay. The truth is, there’s no wrong choice—just different paths that meet you where you are right now.

  • Just beginning? → Start with Internship
  • Gaining momentum? → Step into Management Training
  • Ready for the real world? → Take on a Contractual Role

No matter where you begin, what matters most is that you begin. This journey isn’t just about hotel work. It’s about personal growth, international exposure, new friends, and unforgettable memories. And you don’t have to do it alone—RMC Asia is here to support you every step of the way.
