The people of the UAE are referred to as “Emiratis” – they are sociable and warm hosts who treat guests with grace. They use the customary greeting “As-salam alaikum”, meaning “peace be upon you”. If an Emirati greets you with “As-salam alaikum”, be sure to return it with “Wa alaikum as-salam”, which means “and upon you be peace”.
