Mr. Christian Hochtl, Ayana Midplaza Jakarta’s General Manager shares his insights on hiring international hospitality trainees through RMC’s Educational Travel Asia Programs.
Can you tell us about yourself and the internship program at your property?
Before working at Ayana, I was working for another 5-star hotel in Bangkok – this was how I came to know RMC and the interesting Cultural Exchange Program. Now, as a General Manager at Ayana, I am the one who welcomes students from RMC for a hospitality internship at our property. I am actually happy to share that one of the interns, Laura from Malaysia, is now hired as a full-time employee at our hotel.
Why do you hire international trainees?
We are always interested in welcoming young talents from all over the world because we believe that these students have a good mindset for deciding to pursue their careers abroad. These young talents are smart, highly motivated, and hungry to learn more and this is why we love to have this level of energy in our workplace.
Who do you usually hire?
We usually hire program participants for the Rooms Division, Food & Beverages, and Sales & Marketing departments. Most of our trainees speak Chinese (mandarin), Japanese, English, and Bahasa Indonesia.
Do your guests recognize participants on Trip Advisor or other Social Media?
Not only on Trip Advisor but also verbally. Laura who is at the Sales & Marketing department is an example. Our clients are always pleased with her personality and service.
Do you foresee working with international participants in the long-run?
Yes, of course. This is definitely a good investment for Ayana’s human resource quality. Right now, we train young talents who, hopefully, will be successful in the future and bring our reputation with them to the world and the industry.
Do educational travel programs bring a positive impact on the hospitality industry?
Educational Travel Programs are good for the industry because aside from helping companies find competent international trainees that could help in the business operations, these programs also promote the well-being of the students by assuring that they get to receive quality programs at fine hotels in foreign countries. All of these help young aspiring hoteliers not just to achieve their dream career in hospitality but also to experience cultural exchange in a fun, productive way.
In what aspect do you think we should improve on?
Not many people know about RMC and this is something that should be improved. People should know that RMC offers great programs not just for young talents but also for hotels – this is an opportunity that should not be missed especially for those who would like to pursue a career in hospitality.
“Hotels are now competing not just in business but also in scouting young talents for human resources. With RMC, everything is more efficient for us because we only get to review good CVs which they have already pre-selected for us. Aside from being efficient, RMC is also professional at doing it.” – CHRISTIAN HOCHTL (General Manager, AYANA Midplaza Jakarta)
Our Educational Travel programs at RMC support not only young professionals who are seeking for high-end international internship experience on Hospitality but also the hotels and resorts who host these young professionals’ internship. We at RMC are proud at grateful to be in collaboration with 5-star establishments in Asia such as Ayana Midplaza Jakarta as they are the ones who deliver quality training to young professionals from all over the world. In return, we make sure that we provide them with the top-picked, pre-screened Hospitality interns or trainees.
